Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)

In Breinz, we use structures a lot. Structures are used to organize projects, items, trades, suppliers, price lists, and etc...

What is a WBS?

Create WBS:
The process of subdividing the project deliverables and project works into smaller, more manageable components.

A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)

Watch the following video, '3.2 Work Breakdown Structures', to understand how a WBS fits into the broader scheme of project management and how they are used in projects.

According to WorkBreakDownStructure.com, A work breakdown structure (WBS) is a key project deliverable that organizes the team's work into manageable sections.

The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) defines the work breakdown structure as a "deliverable oriented hierarchical decomposition of the work to be executed by the project team."

The work breakdown structure visually defines the scope into manageable chunks that a project team can understand, as each level of the work breakdown structure provides further definition and detail.

Planning a project, the project manager typically develops the WBS first, assigns tasks and team members to each WBS element, and then add Items (tasks) to it. Items can be organised in nodes of a WBS. Each costing can have multiple WBS headings.
